Martha Beatrice (Bea) Houston Faubion, age 91, a long time resident of Austin, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2009, at Westminster Health Care Center. She was born July 5, 1918 in McKinney, Texas, to Dr. Dick Frank Houston and Maggie Furr Houston. Bea graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Zoology. She was a pre-med major. It was there that she met Darrell B. Faubion who was also in the pre-med program. On September 14, 1941 Bea married Darrell Faubion in Dallas where Darrell attended Baylor Medical School and Bea worked as a laboratory technician. Bea's interests included ham radio operation, flying, hunting, fishing, and golf. She not only enjoyed sports but was very knowledgeable about basketball, football and baseball. She absolutely would not miss a game during the playoffs. Bea is preceded in death by husband Darrell Faubion and granddaughter Laura Mezger. She is survived by her three children: Nancy Faubion of Terlingua, Texas; Franny Faubion Mezger of Austin, and Franklin Houston Faubion and wife Cindy of Kingsland. She is also survived by her five grandchildren all living in Austin: Eric Colquette and wife Amy, Kyle Mezger and wife Alison, Cheryl Faubion, Luke Mezger and wife Melissa, and Sean Faubion. There are three great grandchildren: Bailey, Owen, and Rebecca Mezger. The funeral will be held at Weed -Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin on Friday October 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with graveside services at the Llano City Cemetery, Llano, Texas at 2:00 p.m.Published in Austin American-Statesman on October 9, 2009
