Death
CONCORD - Helen Carriker Cook, 79, of Concord, went to meet her Heavenly Father and her devoted husband of 57 years, Frank M. Cook, who preceded her in death Nov. 8, 2007. She passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009. She was born June 6, 1930 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late William Pinkney Carriker and Mattie Mae Furr Carriker. She was a member of Center Grove Lutheran Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, WELCA member and member of the Evangelism and social ministries. She retired from the Cabarrus County Tax office in 1982. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Bernice C. Stafford of Kannapolis and Nora C. Lathom and husband Chuck of Kannapolis; her son, Dale F. Cook and wife Tammy of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Buddy Stafford, Leslie Rinehardt, Amanda Lathom and Andrew Lathom; six great-grandchildren, Scott Stafford, Blake Fisher, Stacy Fisher, Madeline Rinehardt, Camille Rinehardt and Nolan Rinehardt; one brother, Fred Carriker of Concord; one sister, Viola Childers of Concord; and a special friend and caregiver, Trena Walker of Concord. Service: Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Dave Cash and Rev. Lonnie Karriker. Burial will follow at Center Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Whitley's. At other times they will be at her home.
