Notes
Death
Eileen Frances Eversole Furr, 83, passed away at her home on Nov. 12 following a long period of declining health. Born in Pawnee, Oklahoma, in 1924. She was raised in Rossville, Kansas, near Topeka. She was the daughter of the late George Washington Eversole and Mabel Binns Eversole Bloom Bruce. She was an accomplished pianist and musician, and carried a love of music with her all during her life. Upon graduating from high school in 1942, she moved with friends to California. During and after WWII she worked at Moffitt Field near San Francisco in Military Air Transport and Naval Air Transport Command. While there, she met Jack Harwood Furr, and they married in 1949. They moved to Greenville in 1953, where she first worked at Harper Brothers, then at Donaldson Air Force Base in Dependent Overseas Transportation, retiring in 1960 after the birth of her son, George. Afterward, she volunteered her time to many organizations: the USO, Pilot Club International, the Republican Party, which she tirelessly helped to organize in Greenville, the Furman-Greenville Fine Arts Series, United Ministries, and Meals-on-Wheels as a driver and office volunteer. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Greenville Country Club, where she was twice President of the ladies' 18-hole golf association and served on many club committees. She was a longstanding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a founding member of its Hand Bell Choir. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Jack, and is survived by her son and caregiver, George A. Furr of the home; a sister, Patricia Michie and her husband Marvin of Orem, Utah; and many nieces and nephews in Utah, Washington, Arizona and Idaho. George thanks family friend Josephine Sullivan and Gentiva Hospice for their devoted care and concern in Fran's last days. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, with visitation to follow. The family is at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2310 Augusta Street, Greenville, SC 29605; Thornwell Home for Children, P.O.
