Death
Mr. Oscar C. Harris, 84, went to be with the Lord, May 24, 2002 after a six month illness at Wesley Nursing Center. Oscar was born August 18, 1917 in Montgomery County, the son of the late Travis L. and Ruth Saunders Harris. He lived in Charlotte and Mint Hill until 1986 when he moved to Midland, NC. For many years people drove by his Lawyers Road home and admired his beautiful garden and wonderful corn patch. In his early years, he worked in the Hudson Hosiery Mill until 1952. He later joined Nationwide Insurance Company as an agent and retired after 30 years of service. His first office was located in Mint Hill in a corner of the Ellington Fertilizer Store. He will be remembered for his personal touch that he provided for his policy holders. He was a true role model and exemplified the Christian walk to his family and friends. He served as a Deacon at Lawyers Road Baptist Church for many years. He was a loving husband to his late wife Evelyn Furr, a devoted father to his four sons, a caring brother to his four brothers and three sisters, a special grandfather to his 11 grandchildren, and an exceptional great-grandfather to his 18 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Tony C. and wife, Hazel, Ted D. and wife, Kathy, Mike V. and wife, Diane, Richard W. and wife, Sherry; brother Horace V. Harris; sisters, Mildred Alley, Lois Gibson and Elizabeth Bryant; and grandchildren, Sheryl Wilson, Cindy Steele, Juliette Ewing, Angie Childers, Chip, Jason, Michael, Mark, Scott, Ricky and Chris Harris. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wesley Harris, Lindsey Harris and T.L. Harris. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Lawyers Road Baptist Church with the Reverend Donald Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Lawyers Road Baptist Church, 7541 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. Oscar's family would like to thank the staff at Wesley Nursing Center for their care and devotion.
