Death
Edna McLaughlin Garvin, 87, of Laurel, went to meet our heavenly Father on November 5, 2013, surrounded by her family. Services will be held at Memory Chapel on Friday, November 8, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Her nephew, Joe Garvin, of Hattiesburg, and Bill Myers of Mill Creek Methodist Church will conduct the services. She was born to Nancy and Norman McLaughlin in Fr. Pierce, FL on September 7, 1926. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Ernest Garvin, and he moved her to his home town of Laurel, Mississippi. She graduated, with honors, from the first associate nursing program at Jones County Junior College in 1966, and enjoyed her nursing career, retiring as the home health coordinator at the Jones County Health Department. She was an active member of the AARP and the Jones County Chapter of the American Red Cross, holding offices in both organizations. She was also a devout Christian and exemplified that to all those around her. She will be remembered as loving her family, camping, and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Garvin, and her daughter, Debbie Garvin Furr of Brookhaven. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne Garvin Blackledge and J. M. Blackledge of Mill Creek, and her son, Steven Garvin of Sandersville. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lisa and Jeff Elmore of Columbus, Jeff and Misty Blackledge of Mill Creek, Kaitlyn and Ken Harrington of Sandersville, Matt and Lindsay Garvin of Covington, LA, Cliff and Angela Furr of Brookhaven, Katie Furr of Brookhaven, and Chris and Kathryn Furr of Taos, New Mexico, as well as six great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a community of life-long friends. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Blackledge, Jeff Elmore, Ken Herrington, Matt Garvin, Cliff Furr, and Chris Furr. The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Grafton, Glenda Whitman, Dr. Steve Johnson, and Rhonda Johnson for their outstanding care of our mother. We would also like to thank her devoted caregivers, Martha Graham, Gloria Reed, Charlotte Pitts, Jackie Pitts, Ruthie Anderson, and Brenda Naylor. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Memory Chapel from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening.Endnotes
