Death
L. Ray Furr, 84, of Rockledge, FL., passed away unexpectedly and went to be with the Lord Wed. morning Dec.2, 2015. Ray was a friend to all who knew him, and was always willing to help out his fellow man. He was born Feb. 22, 1931 in Greenwood, S.C. to P.C. (Perly Clifford) and Dora Mae Furr. He joined the Navy for 4 yrs., and then married his sweetheart, Dorothy Pittman. They were married for 55 yrs. She preceded him in passing in 200 7. Ray worked many years for the Index-Journal Newspaper in Advertising/Sales in Greenwood, S.C., and then moved his family to Ocala, Florida for 4yrs., before moving to Rockledge, FL., where he lived the duration of his life. He retired from The Brevard Shopper in Melbourne. Ray was a devoted Christian and member of the New Hope Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church on 524 in Cocoa, FL. He was a Mason and Shriner, and was an avid hunter. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and loved keeping his yard looking especially nice. Most of all, he loved his family. Ray and Dorothy had 4 daughters together; Terry Eaddy of Rockledge,FL., Barbara Ann Furr, of Rockledge, FL., Yolanda Furr of Bell, FL., and Luann Stanley of Rockledge, FL. He had 3 grandchildren that he was so proud of; Tommy (Katie) Cobb of Manhattan, Kansas, Amy (Tony) Gilboard of Rockledge, FL., and Christopher Stanley of Austin, Texas. He also had 4 great- grandchildren; Andrew Cobb, Emiley Holmes, Eli Gilboard and Easton Gilboard. In addition, he leaves behind his 2 sisters; Ann and Berta Furr and Friend Shirl from New Orleans, LA., his sister- in- law; Joy Alexander of Swansea, S.C., and his niece; Wanda (Ollie) Smith of St. Matthews, S.C. Ray also leaves behind many cousins, aunts, and friends, too many to list. He was the best father anyone could pray for. We girls were blessed to have him and Mama together for so many years; to love us, provide for us, and teach us about the Lord! Daddy was always our Hero!! He will be missed by many!! A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 1-2pm at The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 US HWY 1, Rockledge, FL., 32955, with a service to follow at 2pm.
