Notes
Death
Charlotte, North Carolina - David's legacy has been one of Pro Humanitate. A first-generation college attendee, David attended Boys State at Wake Forest University in 1975. His love, compassion, and commitment to Wake Forest never diminished. David graduated undergraduate from Wake Forest in 1980, School of Law in 1982, and post-graduate LLM Taxation from University of Florida 1983. He served on the Board of Wake Forest Law School since graduation and his support to four Deans was unparalleled. A recent gift to the law school, The David Furr endowed scholarship offers a full three-years for a student interested in business law; a scholarship that gives the law school an elite offering to attract talent equal to or greater than other law schools in the Southeast. His family fully expects this scholarship offering to be available to attract two or more students in the near future. David began his law practice in Gastonia in 1983 but spent the next 40 years roaming the world advising and counseling in NASCAR marketing, global financial services with CapGemini, cybersecurity initiatives with Palo Alto Networks, and most recently life sciences along the cold chain. One peer described David as the perfect combination of deal maker, legal mind, and often times, investor. He has displayed that same devotion to community services, often acting quietly but efficiently. When he wasn't raising money for Wake Forest University, he passionately raised money for Levine Cancer Institute directed to blood cancers, and wine related charities as Chairman Emeritus of Charlotte Wine and Food. One of David's other 'business interests' has been his passion and exploration throughout the world for 'all things' wine. He never ceased impressing a young associate that a great business deal starts with a great bottle of wine. David's wine tastings for charity were well received by his friends at Linville Ridge Country Club, where David had a home and often 'terrorized' the golf course with his competitive play. He was Club Champion in 2016. David lived a wonderful life and has left an incredible legacy of what it means to be a citizen servant and friend to all. After battling blood cancers for 9 years, he finally lost the fight. David holds deep thanks and gratitude for the teams at Levine Cancer Institute, headed by Dr. Derek Raghavan, Dr. Nilanjan Ghosh, and Dr. Michael Grunwald for all the services and compassionate care they provided. David is survived by his wonderfully loving and caring wife, Mindy Furr, who has tirelessly cared for him during the last years. The four very wonderful "children" he has raised and mentored, Anne Furr, who is the mother of his grandchildren, Barrett and Tinsley, Charlotte and Richard Lindemanis, children from a second marriage who he reared as his own from an early age, and Tim Wallace, his business partner of 20+ years at The Wine Vault. David's service will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, 2811 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wake Forest School of Law will keep David's legacy alive. McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia is serving the Furr family. The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte.
