Death
Melvin DeSpain, son of the late Irvin L. DeSpain and Mrs. Betty Luna DeZarn DeSpain, was born November 18, 1894 in Green County and departed this life Wednesday, December 18, 1968 at Oxford, Mississippi. He was 74 years of age. He had professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church at the time of his death. Mr. DeSpain had served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He had made his home in Winona, Mississippi for the past 35 years where he had worked as a railroad telegrapher. He united in marriage to Miss Leona Matherly, December 20, 1917, who survives. To this union were born two daughters: Mrs. Louise Clark, Lakeview, Texas; and Mrs. Lucy Furr, Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. DeSpain is also survived by six grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. CST Saturday, December 21, 1968 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with Rev. V. A. Jones officiating. Burial was in DeZarn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carl Lewis, Robert Thomas ! Carter, Odell Salsman, David Alan Furr, Bruner Wade, and Ray Furr. Transcribed by Wanda Bagby Carlson for Karen Jorgensen. Obituaries of Green Co. Ky.
