FIRE GUTS FURR HOME The silhouettes of Attala Central Fire Chief Roy Williams, right, and fire coordinator Danny Townsend are seen fighting a fire at the Highway 43 South home of Sammy and Banita Furr early Thursday morning. No one was home when the fire started -- he was working a construction job near Shreveport, she was at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, where she is a nurse. "I lost everything I had in there," said Sammy Furr, who puts together large metal buildings for a Columbus company. "Now I know how those people on the Coast feel." He was able to salvage a few photos, he said Friday before heading out to another job site in Florida. Furr wasn't sure what started the fire, but he said there were some electrical problems with a refrigerator his wife had purchased recently. An investigator with the state fire marshal's office was on the scene investigating shortly after dawn on Thursday. Firefighters were on the scene from just before 1 a.m. until 7 a.m. Furr said he hopes to rebuild on the large, well-tended plot he's called home for 17 years. "We put a lot of money and work into this place," he said.
