Death

Mr. Howard Eugene "Gene" Furr of Windswept Road, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at Roberta United Methodist Church officiated, by the Rev. Perry Hines. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Roberta U.M.C. Welcome Center beginning at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7. Gene was born May 2, 1935, in Cabarrus County, to the late Glenn Edward Furr and Margaret Cochran Furr. He owned and operated Gene's Upholstery for over 45 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Gene was a beekeeper for over 35 years and was a member of the Cabarrus County Beekeepers. He was an active member of Roberta U.M.C. Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rita Shoe Furr; daughter, Mitzi Furr; grandchild, D.J. Orgeron, all of Concord; sisters, Geneva Lefler of Concord, and Betty Lefler and husband, Larry, of Hamptonville; canine companions, Herbie Gene and Pee Wee; and a number of extended family members. Memorials may be made to the Roberta U.M.C. Multimedia Fund or to the Music Fund, 3925 Cochran Rd., Concord, NC 28027 or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
