Tuesday, July 4, 2006 — Nadine Moss Whitley, from Concord, NC, passed away Sunday July 2, 2006, due to extended illness. She was the daughter of Ervin R. Moss and Lona Rosetta Faggart Moss of Concord. She graduated in 1950 from Mt. Pleasant High School and was the first female school bus driver hired in Cabarrus County. A life long homemaker, Mrs. Whitley enjoyed cooking, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables from her garden, sewing and quisling. She was known in the community for her cakes, pies and homemade bread. She also enjoyed singing in the Boger United Church of Christ choir for over forty years. Her church was a big part of her life, and she held numerous officer positions in organizations within the church. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and was an active member in the Ladies Bible Class and Morning Circle. Mrs. Whitley also enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. When Mrs. Whitley was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer thirteen years ago, she began her work as a team member for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Committee in Cabarrus County, helping to coordinate fund raisers in her church and community. Each year, until this past year, she walked proudly as a survivor at the Relay for Life events. Mrs. Whitley is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, George H. Whitley - who passed away in August 2005 and Bruce Ingram Love, who passed away in 1954. Surviving are Margaret Ann Whitley Furr and husband Pete, of Charlotte; Don Whitley, and wife Tina, if Orlando, Florida; Sharon D. Love, of Concord; Robyn Whitley Cable, and husband Terry, of Mt. Pleasant, and Crystal Whitley Smith, and husband Michael, of Concord. Also surviving are Lori Furr Roberts, Dale Furr, Lisa Furr Ward, Cher Whitley Kluge, Jana Whitley, Sina Whitley, Chrissy Whitley, Cori Cable, Tiffani Smith, Sean Smith, Benen Smith and Braden Smith. Surviving sister and brothers are Elizabeth Widenhouse, Willie “Bill” Moss and Bobby Moss, all of Concord. She is preceded in death by her brothers James Leroy Moss, Raymond Moss, Carl Moss, Hoy Moss, Coy Moss, John Moss, and one sister - Ruth Moss Allman. The Whitley family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Thomas Steffens,NorthEast Oncology - Mrs. Whitley’s physician for thirteen years; the nurses and administrative staff at NorthEast Oncology; all the loving and caring nurses who administer Chemotherapy & Infusion (5th floor NEMC), and all the nurses and nursing assistants on 3rd floor Medical Oncology at NEMC for their wonderful care during Mrs. Whitley’s extended hospitalization. The family also graciously thanks the nurses, nursing assistants and staff at Hospice House - Cabarrus County where she received tender loving care during the past two weeks.
