Rosina
(Abt 1720 - Abt 1774)
Furr family tradition states that Rosina was a German girl. ROSANA FURRER is the name as written on Heinrich Furrer (Henry Furr's) last will and testament, the only written documentation we have of her name. German experts claim that this must be a miss-spelling, because "Rosina" is the German spelling. Also, her name is spelled "Russena" on the Furr memorial stone located on their original homestead land, built in the mid- 1950's. This rhyming "Russena" spelling was based on the oral pronunciation from "old timers" passing down information about Furr family traditions. "Rosina" was a popular German-speaking girl's name for those times, but "Russena" is nowhere to be found amongst German-speaking names at that time period, or at present. Rosina's maiden name is not Roffor, as has been copied and perpetuated on the internet. Her birth year and place has not been verified, only speculated, based on the birth years of her children. We know that Rosina died about 1774-1775 from a court record. About 1751, Rosina married Heinrich Furrer (Henry Furr). In late 2014, I obtained the original transcription of Heinrich Furrer (Henry Furr)'s will, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. A later transcriber wrote the surname as ROFFOR. One can see how ROFFOR and FURRER might be confused in deciphering handwriting from early German script (which the original will was written in), but "Furrer" is written very clearly, not "Roffor" or any other variation. Somewhere along the line, it was assumed that ROFFOR was a German variation of ROSSER, but there is no reason to believe that this is her surname at all either. Also, in all the places where Heinrich and Rosina lived, there were no "Rosser" or "Roffor" surnames (or variations) to be found, which is interesting information to consider.

Notes
Birth
Rosana's birth information is all speculation. Furr family tradition states that she was "a German girl", but we don't know if that refers to her heritage or an actual birthplace. Rosana's birth date is estimated at being around 1720, based upon the birthdates of her 10 children.Death
Heinrich Furrer (Henry Furr) died in 1769 according to his grave marker. However a court record revealing the orphans of Rosana Furrer appears in January 1775. Rosana (Rosana Furror is the name of Henry's wife that appears on Henry's will - not Russena as it was erroneously spelled on their memorial) outlived her husband by 6 years.Endnotes
