Gloria Jane Furr, age 87, of Silsbee, Texas passed away on Friday January 3, 2020. Gloria was born May 18, 1932 in Kaufman, Texas to Mary Etta (Daugherty) Smith and Sidney Lee Smith. Her mother passed when she was 3 yrs old, and her dad passed when she was 14. Gloria's 2 sisters Pearl and Dorothy and a brother Benny were responsible for raising her. She graduated from High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. In 1956, she married Glenn William Furr in Kaufman. They soon moved to Beaumont where they raised their family, Richard, Robert, Lisa, Glenda and Sharon. They were members of the Amelia Baptist Church and had many friends. Gloria is survived by; son Robert Tharp of The Colony, Texas; daughter Lisa Jane (Furr) Anderson of Kountze, Texas; and daughter Sharon (Furr) Cox of Lufkin, Texas. Gloria was preceded in death by; son Richard Charles Tharp and daughter Glenda Ann (Furr) Beard; father Sidney Lee Smith and mother Mary Etta (Daugherty) Smith; brother Willis Alfred Smith; brother Harvey Lee Smith; sister Pearl Wade; brother Cline L. Smith; brother Phalba Smith; brother Sidney Lee Jr. Smith; sister Dorothy Ferrell and brother Benton M. Smith. Gloria Jane was a loving mother who always put her kids first. She also loved to paint. She found inspiration for her art in post cards, magazines, books and life itself. With no formal training, she taught herself the art and technique of oil painting beautiful scenes of flowers, trees, mountains, still life and the world around her. These paintings are a part of the many treasured memories she left with us. Gloria Jane loved her rose garden, and her favorite flower was an Iris of any color. Grandkids, 9 grandkids who would make her eyes and heart sparkle. She truly loved her grandkids and loved spending time with each and every one of them, and talking about them when speaking to friends and family. Gloria Jane loved to smile, laugh, and enjoyed bragging about her family. She was truly proud of who each of her children have become. A gathering of family and friends for Gloria will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine, Beaumont, Texas 77703. A burial will occur Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM. A celebration of Gloria's life will occur Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine, Beaumont, Texas 77703. Serving as pallbearers are Robert Cox, Charles Cox, Cody Swor Jr., Michael Dahl and Robert Tharp.Endnotes
