Death

J.A. Furr, age 90 of Childress, passed away on October 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Freddy Stice officiating. Burial will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. J.A. was born on November 4, 1924 in Cherry Hill, Arkansas to Clyde and Lula (Lackey) Furr. His family came to Texas in 1928. He went to work for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad in October 1948 as an Engineer. He worked for them through many transitions, and eventually retired in 1983 after they became Burlington Northern. J.A. married the love of his life, Winona Bostick, on August 12, 1950 in Childress, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Winona, of the home; two sons, Gary and wife, Joan, and Rick and wife, Terri; one brother, James “Furr” Standridge and wife, Faye; grandchildren, Jennifer Cox, Jeff Furr, Stephen Furr, Emily Millheim, and Ricky Furr; eleven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Memorials may be made to CRMC Hospice or Calvary Baptist Church.
