Bruce was the son of Cecil Bruce and Eura Vivian (Maxwell) Furr. He attended Stringtown schools, graduating in 1961. He attended Southeastern State College for one year. He married Betty Duncan on Oct. 4, 1980 in Las Vegas, NV. Bruce lived most of his life in Stringtown and worked in and out of Alaska as an equipment operator and highliner. He also did international work for the oil and gas industry until he became disabled in 1994 and was forced to retire. He was a longtime member of the Stringtown Baptist Church. He was also a member of the IBEW Union. He served in the National Guard for 10 years during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Betty Furr, of the home in Atoka, OK; stepsons, Levi, Robert and Arley Duncan; sister, Maxine Wilson and husband Butch of Stringtown; nephew, Eddie Thompson and wife Penny of Stringtown; nieces, Terry Mayo and husband Earnest of Stringtown and Lisa Bagherpor and husband Farhad of New Jersey; aunts, Floy Struck of Atoka, Helen Thompson and husband George of Terrell, TX and Willie Jo Furr of Atoka, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bruce chose to be cremated and his cremains are to be buried with his wife Betty when she passes on. Bruce suffered with a long illness and he is at peace now. He will be dearly missed.Bruce Furr, 61. Former Alaska resident Bruce Maxwell Furr, 61, died Jan. 10, 2005, at home in Atoka, Okla. A service was Jan. 11 at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Atoka. The Rev. Bob Graham officiated. Mr. Furr was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Atoka. He had lived in Anchorage from 1967-2002. He was employed as a heavy-equipment operator and machinist. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife, Betty Furr of Atoka; three stepsons; and many friends in Alaska and Oklahoma.
