Death
Robert Ira Furr, 68 years of age, of Concord, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Salisbury VA hospital. Robert was born July 6, 1948 in North Carolina to the late Ira Augustus Furr and the late Ruby Furr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ira Furr. Robert served his country in the U.S. Military. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 6th Battalion and the 9th Infantry Division serving in the Mekong Delta in S. Vietnam. Robert was also a member and Grand Master of Stokes Lodge #32 A.F. & A.M. and a Federal Police Officer in Greensboro, NC. Robert was Station Manager at the United States Postal Service until his retirement. After retirement Robert "worked" at The Rolling Hills Golf Course, Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends Friday, September 30, 2016 from 11:00 am until 11:45 am at First Presbyterian Church Fellowship House Parlor, Union St., Concord. A private graveside service will be Friday at 12:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord officiated by Rev. Peter Bynum. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Gwyn Furr of the home; daughter, Tracie & husband, Jim Phelps of Concord; son, Robert "Brandon" Furr of Concord; step-daughters, Kim & husband, Chris Mauldin of Concord, Katherine & husband, David Kiser of Concord, and Ginger Solomon of Concord; sister, Iris & husband, Franky Hill of Concord; grandsons, Trevor Furr, Austin Furr, Jake Mauldin and Ethan Mauldin; granddaughters, Jolie Furr, Reece Mauldin, Lucas Kiser and Kennedy Kiser; nieces, Cindy Earnhardt and Alisha Steele. The family would like to thank Frank Troutman for his support and advocacy toward the care of Robert. His unselfishness is much appreciated. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 70 Union St. N., Concord, NC 28025. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Furr family.Endnotes
