Death
Donald W. Kirk Jr., 90, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Christ Chapel Bible Church. Entombment: Greenwood Mausoleum. Donald was born Feb. 6, 1921, in West Concord, Minn., to the late Donald Kirk Sr. and Manila Nordman Kirk. He grew up in the Minneapolis, Minn., area and was a 1938 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. He received a B.S. degree in architectural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1943. He was a registered architect in Texas and six other states, and a registered professional engineer in Texas and 13 other states. Don was a member of National Society of Professional Engineers, American Institute of Architects and local and state affiliates of those organizations. He was invested into the Institute's College of Fellows in 1988. Don started his own structural engineering firm in 1956, which became Don W. Kirk, Architect-Engineer in 1960 and later became Kirk, Voich and Gist, Architect-Engineer. Don served his city, community organizations and charities in many areas. Lena Pope Home and Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County were two of his favorite charities. He was a member of Christ Chapel Bible Church. Don was preceded in death by one daughter, Kira; sons, Don III and Andy; his brother, Doug; and Betty Lack Kirk, mother of his children. Survivors: Wife of 33 years, Barbara; daughter, Kathy Kirk; son, Michael Kirk and wife, Patricia; stepdaughter, Pamela Barclay-Woody; daughter-in-law, Michelle Kirk; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.Star-Telegram, Fort Worth, Texas, February 8, 2012
