Death
Loydale Ligon Allen, 59, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Riles Funeral Home. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Clarksdale. Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, Pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church is officiating. Mrs. Allen was born in Cleveland. She was a graduate of Bobo High School in Clarksdale and graduated from Delta State University in 1966. She was a resident of Tupelo for 15 years, where she was a life member of the Junior Auxiliary and was involved with the hospital auxiliary as well as other community service activities. For the past 17 years Mrs. Allen was a resident of Vicksburg where she was formerly employed by Hayes Marketing Incorporated. She was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Edgar L. Allen of Vicksburg; daughter, Carol Allen Popwell of Birmingham, AL.; son, Mark E. Allen of Brookhaven; five grandchildren, Currie Allen, Callen Popwell, Jaybeth Popwell, Lea Allen and Tatum Popwell and cousin, Wayne S. Orr of Clarksdale. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Walton Merritt Ligon and her parents, Dr. George C. Furr and Bessie Dale Ligon Furr.
