Death
CONCORD — The funeral will be Friday for John Ralph Barbee, 92, 3031 Barr Road, who died Tuesday (May 9, 2000) at Hunter Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Charlotte, after two months of declining health.Born July 29, 1907, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Barbee was a son of the late H.T. and Beadia Louvina Furr Barbee. He had retired after 50 years with Hugh Grey Hosiery Mill (now Kayser-Roth Hosiery Co.) He was a member of Meadow Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Stanly County.
His wife, Margaret Whitley Barbee, died June 22, 1996.
Survivors include daughters Vicki and Doris Benton, both of Concord; sons Bobby R. Barbee, Charlotte, Harry Barbee, Kannapolis, and Fred and Henry Barbee, both of Concord; sisters Trecie Smith, Charlotte, Helen Mesimer, Concord, and Jessie Barbee, Kannapolis; brothers Homer Barbee, Davidson, and H.T. Barbee Jr., Concord; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Lisa C. Anderson. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Barr Road.
