Death
ROCK HILL - Mr. Harvey Franklin Partlow, 89, passed away on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Westminster Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Northside Baptist Church, with Dr. Jerry Sosebee officiating. Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Cherry Road. Mr. Partlow was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Rock Hill, S.C., to the late Pearl Furr Partlow and Ben D. Partlow. He loved baseball and played on first American Legion team in Rock Hill. He also played on the semi-pro Highland Park team and later coached the American Legion team 1950-1955, winning the district championship every year. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1943 and served in Europe with the 35th Infantry Division from the beaches of Normandy to Berlin earning several medals including the Croix de Guerre. He was discharged in November 1945 with the rank of 1st Sargeant. He was commander of the American Legion in 1952. He went to work for the post office after selling hot dogs and hamburgers for a few years at Partlow's Grill on Annafrel Street. He retired in May 1985 after a good life working for the public. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was also a life member of the Rock Hill Lodge No. 111 AFM. He married Ann Melton on June 25, 1957. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grew to love him like a father and grandfather. They are son, Dewey Wayne Brackett and his wife, Barbara, of Seneca, S.C.; daughter, Nancy Lynn Lombard and her husband, Harry, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; son-in-law, Dave Dickson of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He has two nephews and one great-nephew whom he loved very much. They are Harry Partlow Jr. and Chuck Greene and his wife, Anita and their son, Chad. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Judith B. Dickson; his brother, Harry Partlow; and his sister, Bobby Jean Greene. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
