Death
Thomas Eugene Moore, born May 12, 1941, left this earth on August 19, 2025, surrounded by his wonderful family in his home in New Madrid, MO. He was born and raised in Memphis, TN, the son of the late Eugene P. Moore and Louise Furr Moore. He attended Frayser High School and graduated in 1959. He joined the United States Air Force in 1960 and served in the USAF Security Service on the island of Crete. His last assignment was in Ellisville, MS. Upon his honorable discharge in1964, he returned home and joined the Memphis Police Department where he worked in different divisions. He was promoted to Captain and served as a Precinct Shift Commander until his retirement in 1998 after serving on the MPD for 33 years. In 1998, he was hired by Protech Security Company and retired in 2001. While employed with the police department, he won two gold and one bronze medals for golf in the World Police and Fire Olympic games. He was also involved with youth athletics where he served as the president of the Raleigh Baseball Association. The teams he coached won numerous championships. In 1989, he met Nancy Kay Hunter. They married at her parents' home in New Madrid, MO on March 16, 1991. They renewed their Catholic vows with Father Dave Hulshof on November 28, 1991, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid, MO. He is survived by his wife Nancy Hunter Moore, daughter Angela Beth Moore of Arlington, VA, his son Andrew Thomas Moore of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren who he adored: Carson, Cyrus, Cora, Chet, and Aaron. He was loved by many sisters and brothers-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death other than his parents, was his only sister, Betty Austin of Southaven, MS. Visitation will be held at his home in New Madrid, MO on August 22, 2025, from 12-3pm with graveside services to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.Endnotes
