Death
Raleigh, North Carolina - Robert Linnet Hendrix, 98, of Raleigh, NC, passed away August 16, 2021. Robert was born November 16, 1922, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Dennie Linnet and Clara Frances Myers Hendrix. After graduating from high school, Robert attended Appalachian State, but left in order to serve his country during WWII. Following the war, he graduated from NC State and later received his Masters from there. He began his career as a County Agent in Edgecomb County and later moved to Raleigh where he worked as a Sales Rep for Shell Chemical Co. He joined the staff of Wake Tech as Dean of Continuing Education in the late 1960s and was instrumental in helping to start volunteer rescue squads in Wake County. In retirement, he became a Realtor with Fonville Morrisey. Robert, known as Bob to his friends, was a faithful member of St. John's Baptist Church, where he served in many roles, including Sunday School teacher, Trustee, Deacon, and choir member. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Pauline (Polly) Furr Hendrix, daughters Ann Vavro (Gary) and Nancy Cashion (Ted), grandson Christopher Winstead (Amanda), great-grandson Connor Winstead, and loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren Jennifer Cheek (Lee), Sandi Sanabria (Minor), step-great-grandchildren Lauren, Sam, Sofia, and Leana, along with the Montagnard families he considered his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven older brothers and sisters. The family would also like to thank his dedicated caregivers Rufus, Betty, Ismael, Mariama, IJ, Chiemeka, David, and Ruby for all their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh on Friday, August 20, at 11 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening, August 19, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.
