Death
Dewey A. Darby, 78, passed away January 7th at S.E.GA Health Systems. A native of Newberry S.C., he joined the United States Marine Corps in August of 1953. During his career, he served as an air traffic controller at many duty stations around the world including Vietnam. In 1973, Dewey retired from the Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant at NAS Glynco. He was a proud and devoted member of the local Marine Corps League and former Commandant. Dewey spent 10 years working at the public library on St. Simons Island. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine!" Funeral services will be held Monday at 11AM in the chapel at the Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Crandall will officiate. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday night from 5 to 7 PM in the chapel of the Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. Survivors include his longtime companion, Linda S. Murtagh of Brunswick; a son, Michael A. (Donna) Darby of Little Rock, AR; a daughter, Carol Brown of Hot Springs, AR; a sister, Delle (Don) Denton of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Ruth Brown, Paul Brown, Sam Brown, and Dan Brown and his loyal dog Roscoe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte F. Darby. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Toys for Tots or the American Cancer Society.Endnotes
