Two Oklahomans died in a two car accident Monday night three miles south of Ada on US-377, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper said. Omega Ruth Furr, 47, and Car L. Baxter, 60, both of Ada, died from injuries they received in the 10:15 p.m. accident in Pontotoc County, authorities said. Jimmy Baxter, 40, of Ada, was in critical condition with multiple injuries at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was flown in by Medi-Flite, officials said. Investigators said Jimmy Baxter was driving a 1988 Lincoln north bound on US-377 when she turned left onto a county road and was hit by a 1984 Oldsmobile driven by Furr. The Lincoln spun around after being hit, and Jimmy Baxter was thrown 58 feet from the car, authorities said. The Lincoln caught fire, and Carl Baxter, Jimmy’s husband, was pulled from the burning car by passing motorists, officials said. Furr was pinned in her car for 45 minutes before Ada fire officials could get her out, investigators said. None of the three were wearing seat belts, and weather conditions were not a factor in the accident, the OHP said.
