Death
Henry D. Furr, Jr., general Sales manager and member of the board of directors of Jitney-Jungle, Inc., died Monday night at the local VA hospital after an extended illness. He was 33. Born in Richey, Miss., Mr. Furr was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dorman Furr, Sr., of Cleveland. His wife was the former Jane Brown McCarty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McCarty of Jackson. They lived at 3739 Crane Blvd. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and served in the U. S. Marines during World War II. In addition to his Post with Jitney-Jungle, he was a director of the Rebel Broadcasting Company. Mr. Furr was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the North Jackson Lions club, the Y’s Guys club, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Masons, and Sigma Nu social fraternity. Besides his parents and wife, his survivors include two sisters, Mrs. A. J. Everette of Cleveland and Mrs. Robert Compessi of Clarksdale. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Wright and Ferguson chapel with Dr. John Reed Miller, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Barnev Lay, George Bailey, C. I. Allen, Bayard Van Hecke, Harvey Gresham, Sonny Blakeman, Bobby Peets and Louis Langford, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be E. L. Mahaffey, John Reddocks, Charles Clark, Lloyd Neese, Eddie Guillot, Charles Holman, Roy Johnson, Denzill Williams, L. R. Smith, the board of directors and staff of McCarty-Holman Co., Inc., and Jackson Jitney-Jungle stores, members of the Y’s Guys club and members of the North Jackson Lions club.The Clarion-Ledger, Jackson, Mississippi, December 30, 1953
