Death

CONCORD - Ruby Lee Helms Furr, 97, of Concord, departed this life on April 3, 2009, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. She was born on Nov. 25, 1911, in Union County. The visitation will be on Monday, April 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Concord. The Rev. Jimmy Hall and the Rev. Dr. Darrell Huneycutt will officiate. The burial will be at Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. The family will be meeting at the home. Mrs. Furr was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She was also a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Concord. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the many friends and caregivers for their loving care of their mother over the years. Survivors include her son, Bobby H. Furr of Concord; daughters, Lucille McDonald of Concord, Geneva Garmon of Easley, S.C., Avie Helms of Concord and Rachel Helms of Charlotte; brother, Jack Morgan of Rock Hill, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lum C. Furr; father, Cul Pepper Helms; mother, Martha Jane (Newsome) Helms; and son, J. C. "Buster" Furr. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family is being served by Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord.
