Death
ALBEMARLE On Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, Mary Furr Reynolds Garris, 94 of Albemarle, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle Sunday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, officiated by Father Paul Gary. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Mrs Garris was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Concord, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter L Furr, Sr. She was a graduate of Concord High School and attended Brevard College, and went on to work as a Special Field Representative for the US Bureau of Census. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Frances Reynolds Johnson and late husband, Harris, and Betty Reynolds Lambert and husband, Frank, both of New London, Ginger Reynolds Snitz and husband, Arnold, of Charlotte; stepson, Larry D Garris and wife, Mary, of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Quint E Furr, of Hollywood Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Frank W Reynolds; second husband, Clad B Garris; sister, Frances Battle; and brother, Walter L Furr, Jr. Mrs. Garris was very active in Our Lady of Annunication Catholic Church, as a CCD teacher, Lector, Eucharistic minister, Parish Council, President of Ladies Auxiliary, Forever Young club, Daughters of Mary and Past President National Council Catholic Wo-men of Charlotte Diocese. Also, she was past Presidents of Albemarle Woman's club, the Democratic Women and the local AARP chapter. She held most positions in the Extensions and Community Associations, from County Council President to Treasurer and a past President of the Southwestern district. Also, members of Oasis, friends of the senior center and Meals on wheels. She loved traveling, gardening, reading and being with her family and friends. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, or Our Lady of Annunication Catholic Church, 416 N. Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001, or the charity of your choice .
