Death
Earl Furr, age 71, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at Christian Care Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Homer Earl Furr, Sr., and the late Ila Crawford Williams. Mr. Furr was a U.S Army Veteran. He worked for many years for Phil and Suzanne Street at Valley Motor Sales. Mr. Furr was a loving father, friend to many, the most honest and caring man that never knew a stranger. He dedicated his life to helping others, no matter the circumstance. He will be dearly missed by all. In addition to his mother and father, Mr. Furr was preceded in death by his step-father, Eugene Williams. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Massingill and husband Kenny, Surgoinsville, TN; two sons, Jaason Furr, Tiptonville, TN and Stacey Furr and wife Revonda, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Jessica Morgan and husband Britt, Barnardsville, NC, Andrew Vess and wife Chelsea, Marion, NC, Kelsey Furr and Dylan Furr both of Johnson City; four great grandchildren, Elijah and Adeline Morgan, both of Bernardsville, NC, Carsyn and Brysyn Vess, both of Marion, NC; two brothers, John Furr, Stanfield, NC, and Rick Williams and wife Arlene, Raleigh, NC; one sister, Elizabeth Joplin and husband Donald, Raleigh, NC; nephew Christopher Joplin; three nieces, Tracy , Candy , Heather. Also surviving is his best friend and mother of his children, Joyce; and his beloved pet cat Patches. The funeral service for Mr. Furr will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 11, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Crowe and Mr. Terry Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday from the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the V.F.W Boone Dam Post. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 P.M. Tuesday. Active pallbearers will be Andy Vess, Britt Morgan, Perry Hodge, Richard Williams, Kenny Massingill, and Eric Riddle. Honorary pallbearer will be Phil Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Caris Hospice, 110 W. Springbrook Dr., Johnson City, TN 37604, or the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Rd., Johnson City, TN 37601. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice, Veterans Administration Medical Center, and Christian Care Center for all the loving care that all the staff has shown Mr. Furr.Endnotes
