Death

Mrs. Pritchard Furr, widow of the late Mr. N. F. Furr, died Saturday evening at 6:15 o'clock at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Padgett, on West Fourth avenue. Death followed an illness of about eighteen months from tuberculosis. For many weeks past she had been gradually growing weaker and for several days her death had been looked for. Though it came not unexpectedly the shock was none the less severe to her family and friends. Funeral services were held at the late residence Sunday afternoon art 3 o'clock and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. C. Barrett, in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends. The body was laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery beside that of her husband who preceded her to the grave five years. Her pastor paid an impressive tribute to her noble Christian character and to the manner in which she bore, unmurmuringly, (sic) her long and painful affliction. She joined the Baptist church when about 16 years of age and had remained a loyal and consistent member up till her death. Deceased was 34 years and five days old. She was married ten years or more ago to Mr. N. F. Furr, of Concord. Six years or more ago his health failed and she accompanied him to the West where he sought restoration in the atmosphere of Arizona and West Texas. He died at El Paso in 1907. Since that time Mrs. Furr had made her home here with her parents. Two children, Edith, aged nine, and Frances, aged five, survive together with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Padgett, four brothers, Messrs. Robert, Edward, Thomas and Ralph and three sisters, Mrs. G. H. Sherer, of Chester, S. C., and Misses Kate and Mabel Padgett, of Gastonia. All of these were present at the funeral except Mrs. Sherer. The pall-bearers were Messrs. W. T. Carroll, J. S. Wray, J. R. Shuford, W. J. Clifford, H. B. Moore and L. F. Groves. Mrs. Furr was a woman of many noble traits of character and her death was particularly sad because of the fact that she leaves two small children. The sorrowing parents, sisters and brothers have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
