Death

Mrs. Lurlie Willis Furr, 101, of Villa Rica died Friday, August 1, 2014, in Douglasville Nursing & Rehab, Douglasville. She was born in Villa Rica, Georgia on July 22, 1913, the daughter of the late Charles Willis and the late Rebecca Bates Willis. She lived most of her lifetime in the Villa Rica area and was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a great love for the outdoors and was totally happy when she was gardening; planting flowers and trees and sharing these with others. Family and friends were Lurlie's passion and delight, and she enjoyed her weekly gatherings with close friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Howard Furr and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Lamar Furr and his wife, Judy, of Decatur and Linda Brown Tassone and her husband, Bruno, of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Mark Furr and his wife, Melanie, of Tucker, Patrick Brown and Jason Brown, both of Atlanta; three great grandchildren, Elise Furr and Ethan Furr, both of Tucker and Johnny Mack Brown of Atlanta; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 3, 2014, at 3:00 P.M. from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Godwin officiating. Music will be provided by Faye Howe. Pallbearers will be Max Wallace, Julius Parrish, Glen Richardson, Charles Willis, Wallace Willis and Max Willis. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memory Gardens, Villa Rica. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, August 3, 2014, from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
