Death
CONCORD Phelia "Phyll" Mae Furr Drye, 80, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at her residence in Concord. "Phyll" was born Dec. 16, 1932, in to the late Cleve Monroe Furr and the late Vadie Martha McClellan Furr. She was also preceded in death by second husband, Clarence Drye and her first husband, Dean Humphrey Elliott; brothers, Dewey Furr, Tony Furr, and Donald Furr; and sister, Raymel Canaday. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Hartsell Funeral Home-Concord. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home-Concord Chapel officiated by the Revs. Steve Pennington and Chris Baker. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park-Kannapolis, at Hwy. 29 N, Kannapolis. Raised in Cabarrus County, "Phyll" managed the Concord Hotel for 30 years. A lifetime member of the DAV Auxiallary, she loved to play bingo and travel. Her favorite hobby was spending time with her family. Survivors include her daughters, Debra Sossoman, of Concord, Shelia Elliott, of Concord and Marilyn Smith, of Concord; sister, Geraldine McDonald, of Concord; brothers, Edd Furr (Mary), of Concord and William Furr, of Concord; granddaughters, Denise (Ernie) Athey, of Salisbury and Christina Smith, of Concord; and great-granddaughter, Shalee Athey. "Phyll" had many special friends she loved to spend time with. The family appreciates you and wishes to give special thanks to Cabarrus County Hospice and the staff at CMCNE. Memorials may be made to Roberta Baptist Church Building Fund, 3281 Roberta Rd., Concord, NC 28027. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Drye family.
