Services for Nathan Byrd Furr, 79, a pioneer of this area were conducted at the First Baptist church on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2:30 p. m. with Rev. J. V. Lobaugh of Snyder and Rev. John B. Shelton, Frederick, officiating. Born November 3, 1878 in Pittsburg, Texas, he came to Oklahoma in 1896 and for the past 22 years has resided in the Snyder vicinity. He was married to Miss Mary Stevenson of Atoka in 1926. A member of the Baptist church, he died at the Frederick Clinic Feb. 4 after a few weeks illness. Survivors besides his wife Mary are five daughters: Mrs. Myrtle McDonald, Liberal, Kansas; Mrs. Oma McDonald, Tipton; Mrs. Edd Bray, Frederick; Mrs. L. D. Bays, Fort Worth, Texas; and Mrs. Jack Renfro, Oxnard, California; also thirteen grand and fourteen great grandchildren. Burial was made in Fairlawn cemetery, with Preston-Leckie Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers included W. D. Strickland, Bill Thornton, Alva Owens, Luther Maxwell, Bronzo Brewer and Fletcher Otwell.Endnotes
