Notes
Death
Last rites were held at the First Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock for William Henry Furr, loved pioneer of this area, who succumbed in the Frederick Clinic Hospital Monday evening, March 3, about 5 o'clock. Mr. Furr had not been well for the past year and though death was not unexpected, at the same time, it was a shock to his family and many friends here. Rev. Luther Cox, pastor of the Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Fred Carrington, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, officiated at the funeral services. Reverend Cox used for his sermon text the 23rd Psalm, then went on into the beautiful chapter in Revelations concerning the house not made with hands. A most comforting and beautiful sermon for the bereaved family. The music, which was in charge of Bunyan Paxton, was especially good. Two choir numbers, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye,” and “Rock of Ages,” were sung by a large choir from all churches of the town. A special duet, “No Disappointments in Heaven,” sung very effectively by Mesdames Herbert Miligan and Albert Flajsinger was a request number. Bearers were Tom Killebrew, L. D. Hay, Joe Bob Farley, Hayes O'Neal, Charles Edwards and Byron Walker. Honorary bearers were Sid Tompkins, T. H. Grimes, L. D. Jenkins, R. O. Burnett, Will Young, L. E. Degan and Frank Killebrew. Interment was in the Tipton Cemetery beneath a great mound of beautiful flowers. Pecinosky Funeral Home was in charge. Born in Wise County, Texas, March 21, 1881, Mr. Furr grew to young manhood, coming to Indian Territory around the turn of the century. As a young man he was employed on the railroad, but in later years, farmed. On July 13, 1914, he was married to Miss Mary Francis Little and to this happy union four children were born, three of whom are deceased. In 1941, the Furrs moved to this valley from Eastern Oklahoma, and have lived here since, making many friends through the years. Mr. Furr was converted and joined the Baptist Church many years ago and remained true to his faith until death claimed him. Besides his widow, survivors include a son, Edgar, of Tipton; a brother, Nathan B. of Snyder; three grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, besides a host of loving friends, who mourn his passing. The Tipton Tribune, Tipton, Oklahoma, March 7, 1952
