Rev. Walter Espey FURR
(2 Jan 1871 - 28 Apr 1956)
Rev. W. E. Furr for Eight Years Pastor Tenders His Resignation. Of exceeding great interest in Presbyterian' circles will be the news of the resignation of Rev. W. E. Furr as pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian church. Mr. Furr tendered his resignation Sunday a week ago but will remain with the church until October 1, not wishing to leave the church without a pastor at this time with the tremendous influx of new citizenship com ing into the city. Mr. Furr became pastor of St. Paul's church eight years ago coming to Charlotte from Arkansas, where he had a charge that, was delightful in every way. The call from Charlotte was accepted by Mr. Furr largely in order to be near his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Furr, who live at Mooresville, Mr. Furr being now 89 years old. Throughout the eight years of his pastorate here Mr. Furr has received several hundred members into his church. He succeeded Rev. Dr. C. E. Raynal as pastor of St Paul's, and has given to the church eight years of faithful, devoted service. He is greatly beloved by his people and his resignation is deeply regretted. M. Fur was born and reared in Rowan but resided in Iredell with his parents for some years. He graduated at Davidson College in 1896 and began the study for the ministry at once. His first charges were in Kentucky and Arkansas. He came from the latter state to accept the call from St. Paul's church here, this being his first charge in North Carolina. A man of splendid intellect with both spiritual and physical energy and a personality at once attractive and responsive, Mr. Furr has made strong friends in and out of his immediate congregation. He is an omnivorous reader, a student and a man of exceptional mental poise. There are few men in Charlotte so well informed. In his work he has had valuable aid in Mrs. Furr, a 'help meet" indeed. Mr. Furr has no plans for the immediate future.

Notes
Marriage
Of high interest in social and Presbyterian circles, was the marriage yesterday afternoon, in Hillsboro, of Miss. Dora Danna and Rev. Walter Espy Furr, pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian church, this city. The ceremony was performed at five o'clock at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Andrews, the latter the bride's sister. Rev. C. H. Little, an old schoolmate, college mate and seminary mate of the groom, officiated, using the old Scotch ceremony, which is beautiful and impressive. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. Furr and bride left for Norfolk, where they take the boat for New York. Returning in the course of two weeks they will begin housekeeping in Miss Henderson’s cottage on North College street, one door south of Mr. Geo. M. Phifer’s. The bride is exceptionally attractive. She is intellectual, of magnetic personality and is admired by a wide circle friends. Mr. Furr is a graduate of Davidson College. His theological course was taken at the Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was a close student and ranked high in college and in seminary. He is of the strictest sect a Presbyterian—orthodox and learned in the doctrines which he so ably expounds. There are few ministers in the city as popular as Mr. Furr. He is doing a fine work at St. Paul's. He and his charming bride will be cordially welcomed on their arrival in the cityEndnotes
