Death
Steven Bennett Furr was born December 12, 1948 in Tulsa the son of Chester and Fama (Rainey) Furr. He passed from this life on Friday, March 30, 2018 in Tulsa at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 18 days. Steven graduated from McLain High School in 1967 and has lived in Berryhill since 1968. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and in February he was ordered to active duty in the Vietnam War. While in service he was awarded the Purple Heart. Steven was released from the Navy in February 1970 and upon returning started Radiology School. From 1972 through 1973 he worked in a welding shop. Steven went to drafting school in 1974 and 1975 through 1980 he worked as a boiler draftsman. In 1980 and 1981 Steven worked as a welding inspector. He was self-employed during 1983 and 1984 and in 1985 he started working for US Postal Service as a mail carrier. In 2013 he retired after over 28 years of employment. Steven was a member of the American Legion and the American Postal Workers Union. He was an avid outdoorsman and could craft from any treasures he found in nature. He was also an excellent leather craftsman and he loved to hunt, fish and go camping. His survivors include his father, Chester Furr of Berryhill; daughter, Stephanie Furr of Las Angeles, CA; son, Matthew Furr of Berryhill; brother, Lionel Furr and wife Susan of Tulsa; sister, Loretta Jean Douglass and husband, Clayton of Broken Arrow; grandson, Ethan Genoff-Furr of Bixby and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother. Viewing for Steven will be 3pm – 8pm on Monday and 8am – 8pm on Tuesday. A memorial service is scheduled for 1pm, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in the Heath-Griffith Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Heath-Griffith Funeral Home.Endnotes
