Mr. and Mrs Larry Winston Furr married February 24 in Bennettsville, S. C., are living with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Furr in Sanford. The former Miss Beverley Lane Vest, of Greensboro and West End, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vest of Route 1, West End. A 1961 graduate of the West End High School, where she was valedictorian, she has been working as a secretary in the Wachovia Bank, Greensboro, since January. Mr. Furr is a 1959 graduate of the Central High School in Sanford and is presently employer by Thomas Matthews, Contractors, of Sanford.Death
Larry Winston Furr, 82, of West End, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst. Larry was a native of Lee County and was the son of the late Robert Paul and Kathleen Sawyer Furr. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Jones. Larry devoted more than 30 years of service to Alltel, in Sanford, where he built a respected career and retired as an area regional manager. Outside of work, Larry was a man of many passions. He found great joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing and golfing. He cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A true steward of the land, Larry took pride in maintaining an immaculate yard and found peace and purpose working in the garden alongside his beloved wife, Beverly. Larry was also a longtime member of Culdee Presbyterian Church, where he held several positions over the years. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Beverly Vest Furr, of West End; two sons, Scott Furr (Katrina), of Hickory, and Derek Furr (Grace), of Houston; two sisters, Susan Cox and Kay Johnson (Graham), both of Sanford; three grandchildren, Katie Walker (Josh), Allison Stout (Henry) and Andrew Furr; and one great-grandson, Rhodes Walker. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 13, at Culdee Presbyterian Church with Pastor Connie Weaver and Pastor Chris Bobo officiating. Burial will follow the service at Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Culdee Presbyterian Church Missions Fund, 916 NC 73, West End, NC 27376.
