Private, Company E, 4th North Carolina Cavalry (59th Regiment NC Troops); enlisted Cabarrus County, NC, July 7, 1862 (age 30); present or accounted for through October 1864; captured Appomattox River, VA, April 3, 1863; confined Hart's Island, NY; paroled June 19, 1865.
Albright list him as Wilson. "I think his name was Mathias Wison. Tradition is that he married (1) Ann Motley and (2) Miss Snuggs. Records in Concord show that Mathias W. Furr married Lenina Smith November 16, 1852, and Lorena Stallins October 23, 1858. (Wilson Furr was wounded in Civil War). In the Furr graveyard near the John Teeter farm is buried 'Mathias Wils Furr, 24 March 1832--18 May 1893' and Louisa P. Wife of M.W. Furr 11 Dec.--7 Feb. 1911'. I believe Louisa J. was Snuggs."

Take hwy 73 west from Albemarle to Mt. Pleasant. At the first stop light take a left on to South Main St. A little way down the road S. Main turns into Mt. Pleasant Rd. Stay on Mt. Pleasant Rd. till you come to a four way intersection. At this intersection you will take a left on to Miami Church Rd. Go to the very end of Miami Church Rd and take a left onto Barrier-Georgeville Rd. There is no street sign here, but as you turn left the cemetery will be on your left up on a very small hill right near the road.
