Lester H. Mason, (Les) Resident of Topsail Beach Former San Ramon Resident Les, passed away August 20, in a drowning accident. As per his wishes, he has been cremated. His wife, Franchion Mason and mother, Cornelia Mason and many loving family and friends survive him. There will be a "Memorial Celebration" of his life Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm in the Emma Anderson Church at Topsail Beach, NC. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. The family requests memorial gifts be made to: Team Pastore Parkinson Foundation, 1201 Hummingbird Lane, Wilmington NC 28411 in lieu of flowers. Les lived an amazingly full life. He was born August 12, 1943 to the late Lester S. Furr, Minister and Cornelia Howard in Salisbury. Les and his mother moved to Durham where she married Dalton Bickett Mason who adopted Lester. Les attended grade school in Durham, graduated from Southern High School in Bethesda. He attended Methodist College in Fayetteville, NC for two years followed with two years at Atlantic Christian (Barten) College in Wilson. Here he met his wife, Franchion McLawhorn of Greenville, NC. A loving son, he missed only a few days visiting his mother after she was moved to the nursing home. She will soon be celebrating her 101 birthday. "The energizer bunny" was an endearment spoken of Les often after 19 years with Parkinson. He would never give up. He just kept going and going. After 45 years of marriage, Franchion still believes Les to be the nicest person she has ever known. Lester was a resident of San Ramon, Calif. For 31 years. He owned Mason Communication Services and enjoyed boating on the 50' "Grand Banks". He and his wife also performed with the Foggy Mountain Cloggers.Published in Contra Costa Times on September 16, 2012
