Death
Carol Martitia White Hicks, 77, of Archdale, died Sunday morning, 1/29/2017, at her home. She was born January 15, 1940, the daughter of Robert Lyndon and Minnie Furr White. She was a 1958 graduate of Trinity High School, and married Robert Franklin (“Frank”) Hicks on November 17, 1959. He preceded her in death in 2011. Carol worked for Sears & Roebuck of High Point for over 30 years in two separate stints, and retired there in 2011. In between, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, she was employed in the Trinity High School cafeteria and as a school system bus driver. She was a life-long Baptist, and a member of Sophia Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and church secretary. Surviving are four children, Bob Hicks and wife, Donna, of Trinity; Gina Rice and husband, Phillip, of High Point; Marty Hicks and wife, Jennifer, of Sophia; and Jennifer Benge and husband, Jeff, of Sophia; three granddaughters, Hayley Hudgins, Troi Hicks, and Layla Hicks; five grandsons, Zac Hicks, Grey Pennell, Skyler Hicks, Brycen Benge, and Hayden Benge. Also surviving are brothers Ray White; and James “Buck” White, and wife Betty; and three sisters, Doris Canter, and husband Jimmy; Rachel Hunsucker, and husband Pete; and Sarah Anne Earnhardt. She was preceded in death by five brothers Worth, John Cameron (“Pap”), Keith, Bobby, and Charles White; and one sister, Mary Lee White Morgan. Funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Sophia Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Bill V. Barnes. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 until 8, also at the church. Memorial contributions should be made to the Randolph County Honor Guard, or Hospice of the Piedmont.Endnotes
