Death
Paul Adam Smith, 89 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the home of his daughter in Salisbury. Paul was born January 30, 1925 in Stanly County to the late Adam Alexander Smith and the late Avie Malinda Furr Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Lee Smith and four sisters, Nela Smith Scott, Myrtle Smith Honeycutt, Cara Smith Huneycutt and Maude Smith Vanhoy. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, and will be officiated by Dr. Kinney Wallace. Burial will be at the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at 22182 Canton Rd., Albemarle. Paul was educated in the Stanly County Schools. He worked as an employee of the NC Department of Transportation for twenty years, Service Distributing for ten years and was a farmer. Paul was a member of Porter Baptist Church of Norwood and was also a teacher for the Men's Sunday School class for several years. Survivors include wife, Jean Cooper Smith of Norwood; daughters, Betty Smith Pierce and Shirley Smith Perrell, both of Salisbury; son, Paul Martin Smith of Albemarle; step daughter, Kay Griffin Summers of Charlotte, stepson, Richard Griffin of Norwood; sister, Hilda Smith of Albemarle; three grandchildren, Rhonda Pierce Walker of Salisbury, Rhonda Elaine Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Michael Paul Smith of Locust; two step grandchildren, Meredith and Anna Summers of Charlotte; and a great grandchild, Erin Laine Morton of Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Peters Church Preschool, 2570 St. Peters Church Rd., Salisbury, NC 28146. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care provided by Rowan County Hospice and Palliative Care. Also, a special note of thanks is extended to Chandra, Stacey and Charles.
