Death
Peggy Jane Coston Jackson, 81, passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2009, at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS on Saturday, December 5th at 11:00 o'clock followed by a graveside service at noon. Dr. John Goodwin will officiate. Peggy was born February 2, 1928, in Camden, Arkansas. She attended Standard Umpsted School through the 11th grade and graduated from Laurel High School in 1944. She was a star basketball player during that time. After her graduation from Jones Community College in 1946, Peggy worked for the Laurel Leader Call newspaper for three years. In March of 1948, she married Conway Jackson. They had two children and moved from Laurel to Jackson in 1958. She graduated with honors from Mississippi College in 1969. After living in Houston, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, and Clinton, MS, the couple relocated to Baton Rouge, LA in 1974 where they made their home for 35 years. Peggy was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Active in Sunday School and women's groups there, she also served as church librarian for many years. The love of reading was her passion. She was also involved in the Baton Rouge Chapter of the DAR. Four months ago, the couple moved to Clinton, MS, and were residing at the Trace Pointe Retirement Community. Those who knew Peggy best will remember most her warmth, loving kindness, and loyalty to family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Mose Coston and Floye Furr Coston. Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Conway Jackson; her daughter, Jan Crochet and her husband Kearney and their children Brad, Benjamin, Robert and Jeffrey of Clinton, MS; her son, Lyle Conway Jackson and his wife Leigh and their children Forest and Ashleigh of Nashville, TN; and her sister Betty Stewart of Baker, LA.
