Thursday, April 13, 2006 — Nettie Furr Whitley Key, 90, of 21700 Joy Road, Locust, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in Stanly Regional Medical Center. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m.. Friday in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Ron Drye will officiate and burial will be in Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Locust. Born March 1, 1916, in Stanly County, she was a daughter of the late A.C. and Dallie Isabelle Almond Furr and was a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of the Ridgecrest Volunteer Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and Treasured Friends Senior Citizens. Her first husband, Coy James Whitley; her second husband, James A. Key; a brother, Adam R. Furr, and a sister, Eva Isabel Furr, all preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Whitley of Locust; a son, Ray D. Whitley, and wife, Kay, of Griffin, Ga.; a stepson, David Key of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Dana Ray Whitley and wife, Tracy, of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Lynnette and MacKenzie Whitley of Atlanta; an adopted daughter, Barbara Osborne, and husband, Bob, of Mint Hill, and her caregiver, Mary Eudy. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. At other times they will meet at her home.
