Death

Jerry Allen Speights, 73 years of age, of Albemarle, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at his home. Jerry was born February 15, 1940 in Stanly County to the late James William Speights and the late Bertha Furr Speights. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Gene Speights. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM, Friday, October 4, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 4 PM on Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro, with Dr. Wayne Bennett officiating. He will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be meeting at his home. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Faye Earnhardt Speights of the home; sons, Joe Speights and wife Kathy of Albemarle, James Speights and wife Debbie of Marshville, Nelson Speights and wife Suzy of Locust, and Ronnie Speights and wife Cindy of Albemarle; brother, Gerald Speights of Portmouth, OH; sister, Janice Page of Oakboro; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Jerry retired from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry after 13 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a loyal member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nevin Huneycutt for his love and support, and for his promise fulfilled.
