Death
SANFORD - Mary Scott Furr, of Sanford, died Tuesday (11/18/03). A native of Sanford, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Mary L. Scott of Monroe. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Mrs. Furr, formerly Mary Harden Scott, was a member of the initial teaching staff at St. Clair Elementary School, where she taught fifth grade for a number of years. She was recognized for her accomplishments and loved dearly by her students. She left the teaching profession to marry the late Grover Carr Furr, vice president of Burlington Industries. They resided a number of years in Greensboro. She was a member of the Greensboro Country Club, the John Grady Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the West Market Street United Methodist Church and various social organizations. Upon the death of her husband, Mrs., Furr returned to her native Sanford. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Buffalo Cemetery. She is survived by sisters, Cora Scott Makepeace and Billie Scott Economy, both of Sanford; and nephews, John Scott Makepeace of Concord, and John H. Newlin and C. Bennett Newlin, both of Orlando, Fla. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.Endnotes
