Death
Eda Lehmann Furr, 93, of Plano, Texas, died there Sept. 13, 2008. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Magnolia until services there at 11 a.m. Dr. Barry Ward and the Rev. Donald Dick will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Furr was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Baton Rouge. She was the daughter of John Paul Lehmann and Callie Arnold Lehmann. She graduated from Wilson High School in New Orleans, entered nursing training at Southern Baptist Hospital and graduated with her registered nurse degree. While in training she met her girlfriend’s cousin, Scott Furr. They married in February and had their only child, Carolyn Eda the next year. While living in New Orleans, Mrs. Furr worked general duty at Baptist, but mostly did private duty. She was a Civil Defense nurse in the mid-1940s. Upon moving to Magnolia, Mrs. Furr was a member of the 20th Century Club and the Magnolia Garden Club. Her interests were in working for the Lord in her church, First Baptist of Magnolia, where she was involved at various times as GA Director and teacher, adult Sunday school teacher and was active in the homebound ministry. Her love of nursing continued, and she worked for 9½ years for the Pike County Health Department. Mrs. Furr trained and was awarded the Red Cross Nurse pin. She served in that capacity after Hurricane Camille. Also during this time she attended the University of Southern Mississippi, working toward her bachelor of science degree in nursing. Upon the death of her husband, Mrs. Furr became the owner and operator of the Scott Furr Equipment Company for 10 years. Mrs. Furr was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Rebecca Lehmann; and two brothers, Arnold and Segler Lehmann. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Eda and her husband Cliff Hawk; one sister, Pauline Johnson; two granddaughters, Charlotte Scales and Susan Warren; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Scales, Fred Furr, Emmett Kennedy, Everette Robertson, Jack Nunnery and Bobbie Furr.Enterprise-Journal, McComb, Mississippi, September 16, 2008
