Death
Mary Shivers Furr, 87, of Pine Lane Circle, a retired buyer for Kennington Department Store Toy and Book Department, died of heart failure Saturday at St. Dominic/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street and after 11 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Shivers had lived in Brookhaven, Hattiesburg and Wesson before moving to Jackson 53 years ago. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served in the Women's Missionary Union. She was an avid reader. Survivors include: husband, Carl; son, Carl Ray Furr of Jackson; daughter, Sandra Furr Akin of Jackson; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Special Education Department at Calvary Baptist Church or to the music ministry.Clarion-Ledger, Jackson, Mississippi, February 16, 1997
