KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Weldon LaVern Davis, 74, First Assembly Living Center, Concord, who died Tuesday (June 26, 2001) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord. Born April 5, 1927, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Davis, a son of the late William Weldon and Matilda Elizabeth Hurst Davis, was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Seabees. A truck driver, he worked for Akers and Pilot trucking companies. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. His wife, Betty Furr Davis, died March 17, 1995. Survivors include daughters Gail Overcash, Kannapolis, and Beth Weaver, Charlotte; son Tim Davis, Concord; sister Hallie Owensby, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Otis Snow, the Rev. R.J.Hammond and the Rev. Ronnie W. Parker. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park. Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Gail Overcash, 5683 Tuckaseegee Road.
