His first appearance in the city Directory is 1877 where he and Andrew are both "moulders" and boarding at 60 N. First. Also boarding there is William Jr., listed as "laundry". The apparent homeowner is William (Sr.?) an engineer.
So look for a record that has father William and includes sons Andrew, Arthur and William.
There is such a family: William Van Keuren (abt 1814--18 Jun 1883), unknown wife, and children William (1849-), Arthur (1853-), and Andrew (1855-), as well as several others. The birth dates of Arthur and Andrew are appropriate for their first appearance in the city directory in 1877. The first distinct directory for a William Jr. occurs in 1872, also appropriate to his birthdate.
