Notes
Will
CHARLES JOY wrote his will on 10/20/1778 and it was probated on 2/2/1779 (JJ#1:78-79). Although they were living, he did not mention his sons CHARLES JOY and THOMAS JOY, so they no doubt received their legacy at the time of their marriage. To his sons PETER JOY and ROBERT JOY he left all of his land, and if either of them died without heirs the land was to go to his grandson CHARLES STONE. His daughters ELIZABETH and SARAH were to be allowed to live on the land as long as they are single. He left large legacies to his three STONE grandchildren - JAMES STONE, CHARLES STONE and SARAH STONE. To his daughter ANN STONE he left 1,000 pounds of tobacco, £50. The residue of his estate was to be equally divided between PETER JOY, ROBERT JOY, ELIZABETH JOY and SARAH JOY. He appointed his son ROBERT JOY and his daughter ELIZABETH JOY as his executors.Death
