Individual Details
John YOUNG
(Abt 1628 - 29 Jan 1690/91)
John Young, immigrant ancestor, was born in England, settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He had a grant of land in Plymouth, October 31, 1638 and November 21, 1639, as per town of Salem records. His name appears on the list of those able to bear arms in 1643. He married, December 13, 1648, Abigail Howland, daughter of Henry and nice of John Howland of the "Mayflower" (See Howland). She died April 7, 1692. He settled in Eastham about 1650, died January 29, 1690/1. His will, dated January 19, 1688; proved April 21, 1691; bequeathed to wife Abigail and children John, Joseph, Nathaniel, David, Robert (2), Henry and three daughters. The widow's estate was divided April 19, 1692."
On the following page, Cutter and Adams assert that a daughter Lydia, was born in 1664 but give no marriage information.
Barnstable Probate Records (see sources) support the assertion that one of the daughters was named Lydia and that her brothers included Robert, John, Joseph and Henry. Depending on how one reads the text, another daughter may have been named Abigail.
